Systems Administrator/Director
Position: Systems Administrator/Director
Department: Information Technology (IT)
Reports to: Principal Chief

Job Purpose: Achieves the IT department goals and objectives by planning, directing, monitoring, and evaluating the daily operation of all departmental functions and staff. Ensures the efficient and effective provision of Information Technology (IT) services to meet the needs of Seminole Nation.

Job Duties:
1. Identifies requirements for Information Technology services by collaborating with department managers and leadership in the planning process.
2. Prioritizes IT initiatives and coordinates the application of systems and technologies; maintains an appropriate organizational structure to support the needs of the organization.
3. Provides a secure, stable and reliable environment for the data and communication systems; ensures equipment, system operation, and IT processes adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
4. Integrates and expands existing computer systems by establishing a standardized platform for all hardware and software that ensures system security, integrity, inter-connectivity and online communication between sites within the tribe and other governmental agencies.
5. Coordinates and monitors IT activities including hardware and software acquisitions and development; ensures the documentation of current inventory and establishes a system for tracking the movement of IT equipment.
6. Works with communications contractors to isolate and correct problems encountered in the telecommunications systems that inhibit the operation and performance of computer systems.
7. Isolates equipment failure and performs minor systems repairs.
8. Ensures incremental and complete systems backups as directed to ensure data security and disaster recovery.
9. Oversees, develops and maintains standard procedures for software design, program coding, and application system documentation where necessary.
10. Oversees the development and maintenance user manuals for application systems.
11. Develops, maintains and secures compliance with computer security policies that safeguard and restrict access to computer data equipment.
12. Coordinates with consultants to ensure that the product or service provided is consistent with the Seminole Nation’s operating environment.
13. Manages department budget; coordinates financial and budget activities for maximum operational efficiency.
14. Creates policies and procedures for staff to ensure consistency and adherence to department goals.
15. Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure communication among staff regarding department related activities.
16. Writes proposals and grants to secure additional funding and grant monies for continuation and expansion of program services.
17. Maintains current working knowledge of trends in information services, technology and systems.
18. Prepares and presents reports on the status, activities and plans for current and future operations; keeps leadership and other departments informed of status of department activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
19. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of information systems technologies, applications, principles and capabilities to include telecommunications, data networking and processing, IS Security processes and methodologies, computer operations, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications.
• Knowledge of computer languages, mainframe languages, and databases.
• Knowledge of server and required network administration tools including backup and restore.
• Knowledge of network firewall installation and maintenance.
• Skill in budget preparation and administration.
• Skill in preparing, reviewing and analyzing operational and financial reports.
• Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
• Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
• Skill in operating various word processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
• Skill in system troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Skill in reviewing and analyzing complex technical manuals or journals.
• Ability to introduce and implement new methods and procedures to keep pace with rapid growth in the information services industry.
• Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.

Supervision Responsibilities:
• Manages Technicians and provides coaching, counseling, training and feedback to employees; assigns, reviews, and delegates work and job responsibilities to designated staff.
• Hires, evaluates, disciplines and develops professional and technical staff.
• Coordinates training, orientations and continuing education of staff.

Work Environment:
1. Work hours are typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. May be required to work beyond normal working hours.
2. Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; smoke; exposure to contagious diseases, cuts, bruises, common cold, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
3. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
4. Duties may involve walking, standing for long periods of time, sitting and crouching.
5. Specific required movements include the following:
 Trunk: bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, carry
 Arms: reach, carry, push, pull, lift, twist, rotate
 Legs: lift, push, pull, twist, rotate
 Hands: grasp, manipulate, bilateral coordination, eye and hand coordination, overall and finger dexterity

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information systems or related field.
• Five years related progressive work experience in IT administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience in information security administration, network management, and systems administration.
Supervisory experience.
Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized.
Able to work on and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong working knowledge of performance and operations management.
Familiarity with industry regulations and quality standards.
Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office and relational databases and software.
• Valid Oklahoma Driver’s license with ability to meet Seminole Nation Liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance.
• Must be able to pass the Seminole Nation required background check.
• Must be able to comply with the Seminole Nation Drug Free Workplace policies.
